Swimming!!!

Abby and Woodruff had their first swim yesterday, and we had so much fun that we went again today! She's gone "wading" before (ie, chases something into the water, then is surprised to find herself wet), which is hysterical, since her little chicken legs show, but her top is still all fluff and puff. Yesterday, she went in whole hog. Christopher took pictures yesterday, and I hope to get copies soon.

Here are some pictures I took at today's swim; we went on a short hike to find this spot on the edge of Griffy Lake.

She is a retrieving fool! When poodles served a purpose (god knows how long ago that was...) they were water retrievers, so Abby's got it on both sides. She's been a bit of a stubborn ass of a dog regarding fetching in the back yard, so we were delighted to find that that's not a problem in the water. Not only was she all about fetching, she wanted to get all the sticks she could see, starting with the biggest. She damn near sank trying to pull out these enormous sticks (which someone, who shall remain nameless, kept throwing for her...)

Another funny part of the afternoon was the Continuing Drama of the Big Stick. In our backyard, Abby and Woodruff have a favorite stick, and they chase each other around trying to gain control of it, and so forth, but after a few minutes of chase, they settle down and chew on it side by side (a la Lady and the Tramp) and it is so precious. So, down at the lake today, they found another desirable stick and commensed the game.

They are so cute together! In the backyard, they've started taking naps together, and at the dog park, all Woodruff wants to do is follow Abby around. At the lake, we'd throw a stick for Abby, and Woodruff would splash in up to his ankles, let Abby drag it back in, then pounce on her and, if he could wrest it from her, present it proudly to his daddies.
